Management Considerations to Minimize Reproductive Disease in the Beef Herd
نویسنده
چکیده
Many conditions affect the reproductive performance of the beef herd, including nutrition, bull fertility, and environmental stresses. Perhaps none have the potential to create more significant losses than infectious diseases. Infectious diseases affecting reproduction can create losses throughout the entire reproductive cycle by decreasing ovulation rates, fertilization rates, embryonic survival rates, or fetal survival rates.

Health and Biosecurity Concerns to Improve Beef Cattle Reproduction
Maintaining the health of animals in a beef breeding herd is critical to insure optimum herd productivity since the major contributor to overall herd performance is the reproductive rate. Because of this level of importance, it is essential to carefully monitor all aspects of herd reproduction on a production year basis in order to monitor each year’s production and make good management decisio...

This study describes the management and products of the Gasconne cattle in two neighbouring countries (Spainand France), as a model study in trans-border breeds, analysing if they are significantly different depending on the place where they are located. Fifty-seven Gasconne breeders were interviewed (32 inSpainand 25 inFrance). The survey examined several aspects of the productive farming syst...
متن کاملTiming of Vaccination in Beef Cattle Herds
Infectious reproductive diseases have great potential to create significant damaging effects to reproductive efficiency and therefore profitability for the beef herd. Pathogens causing reproductive diseases include: bovine viral diarrhea (BVD), infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR), Leptospira, Tritrichomonas foetus, Campylobacter fetus subsp. venerealis (“vibrio”) and Neospora caninum, among...
متن کاملThe Impact of Disease Nutrition and Management on the Beef Production Chain
Animal health and nutrition can have significant impacts on beef cattle herds. If the nutrition, health or husbandry of the herd is compromised there will be adverse consequences with accompanying economic losses. The number one health concern in beef cattle production is respiratory disease commonly referred to as BRD or Bovine respiratory disease. The number one production concern for cow cal...
متن کاملA simulation exercise to teach principles of bovine reproductive management.
Students in Reproductive Management (a senior-level course with approximately 20 to 50 students per semester) at the University of Missouri-Columbia are required to participate in a simulation exercise that is designed to improve reproductive efficiency in a beef herd. During a simulated 5-yr period, students must 1) improve reproductive efficiency in a beef cow-herd through implementation of r...
